Every frame of this film was shot inside of an Oldsmobile Starfire. Tom Frei engineered the device that allowed for tracking shots inside a moving automobile. There's a fake cup folder that disguises the tracks when the camera tracks toward he back. A great moment for me was when Wim Wenders watched the film. He was prepping Hammett at the time. I cross paths with Wim every ten years or so and he allows recall the film, which warms by heart (he also thinks I look like Volker Scholondorff).
I shot this film in 1977 and completed it in 1978.
In the August 1979 issue of "American Cinematographer" Tom Frei wrote an article "Moving Camera Shots inside a Moving Automobile." The entire film was shot inside of a Oldsmobile Starfire. I looped the entire soundtrack but I now feel it would have been much better using the production sound. Oh, well.
